Hogs, I Mean Hugs

Happy Sunday, everyone.  I am finally participating in the Mojo Monday Contest.  I’ve been meaning to play along for quite a while.  I flipped the Mojo Sketch 459 sideways to create today’s card.

I decided to do a black and white monochromatic card with color blocking for my background.  To do this, I first cut a piece of regular copy paper to A2 size.  I then cut scraps of Basic Black, Basic Gray and Smoky Slate cardstock into strips and adhered them to the copy paper.  I took that piece and die cut it with a Stitched Rectangle die.  Color blocking is a great way to use up those scraps of cardstock

I used a smaller stitched rectangle die to die cut an opening for the sentiment.  I was going to just die cut a black sentiment and adhere it to the white openung, but it looked too plain.  So I did color blocking for the opening as well and inlaid it.  To make it stand out, I added a white stitched rectangle frame.  I die cut the hugs sentiment from a scrap piece of Dazzling Diamond glitter paper.

I stamped the hog with black Memento ink onto white cardstock.  In keeping with the black and white monochromatic color theme, I colored the hog with light gray Copic markers.  For a little bit of interest, I colored the heart red.  The hog was die cut out with the matching die and popped up with foam adhesive.  Clear Wink of Stella was added to the heart to finish.

I am playing in the following challenges:

Stamping Smiles Designs – Tic Tac Toe Challenge 15 (middle row across: word dies, sparkle, color blocking)
Mojo Monday – MOJO Sketch 459 Contest
Glitter N Sparkle – Challenge 200 Black and White
AAA Cards – Game #70 Stitching
Pixie’s Snippets Playground – Week 241

  1. Hi Trina! A couple of things honey. I’m just about to feature this card in the Snippets Playground for tomorrow’s weekly post. I normally keep my picks a secret but wanted to make a couple of suggestions to you. You have Captcha enabled and to be honest that often will put people off commenting. In fact, some challenges will not even comment if they see this extra step. For myself I don’t mind but you might find it better to remove it. If you’re unhappy then just activate ‘comment moderation’ and also don’t allow Anonymous comments. The other thing is that you would probably get a lot more followers if you have a ‘followers gadget’ on your sidebar or across the top of your blog. A lot of people, me included I confess, don’t normally sign up to being notified of posts by email – simply as we can’t always get time to open, check and then follow what’s in the email. BUT, this might all be arbitrary stuff as it doesn’t look like you’re actually using Blogger per se anyhow? I hope you don’t mind me saying all this – it’s just that I think you have a blog that should be more followed! 🙂 Pssst, I’m signing up to follow by email purely as I feel so strongly about the wonderful cards you make.

    Love

  6. Striking use of monochromatic colours, love how the smaller stitched rectangle echoes the larger one. Thanks for playing at AAA Cards.

  7. Once again I need to comment on your blending and shading. You fade out your color so evenly. You have such an even touch. Cute, cute card.
