Less is More #363 One Layer Card Cute

Hello there.  It’s been a while since I’ve posted.  I was one of the unlucky ones who started off the new year with the flu. 😝  I’m happy to report that I am on the mend and am slowly getting my energy back.  I am here today with a new challenge at Less is More (LIM).  We are looking for Cute one layer cards this fortnight.  Our sponsor once again this month is Skulls and Cross Buns.

BELATED BIRTHDAY

I have too many cute critter stamps to choose from, but the first image that came to mind was this little cutie, which I made a Christmas card with.  He is from a Christmas set, but I wanted to stretch my stamps so I created a Winter birthday card.  Look at him, he’s so ashamed for forgetting. 😂  Not much to explain here as this was pretty straight forward.  On a white top folding A2 card base created from Mixed Media paper, the penguin and sentiment were black heat embossed, and then watercoloured with Zigs and a watercolor brush.  Added the three dots after sorry wth a black marker.  For a little sparkle, added clear shimmer to the rainbow colour background (hard to tell in the photo) to finish.

Linking this one to the following challenges:
CAS WatercolourJanuary 2018 Birthday
Seize the BirthdayAnything Goes Birthday optional topping One Layer
Moving Along with the Times  #63 CAS
Mod SquadRainbows
STAMPlorationsJanuary 2018 Anything CAS Goes optional color twist Silver

MISS YOU

So I wanted to stretch this stamp further and ended up creating a missing you card too.  On another top folding card base made from Mixed Media paper, the penguin was black heat embossed then masked.  A heart reverse mask was hand cut from copy paper and Cherry Blossom inks (new) were blended with a mini blending tool for an ombré look.  For some texture and shimmer, splattered Gansai Tambi Starry gold paint (new) mixed with water.  Masks were removed and the image was coloured with Zigs and a watercolor brush.  The sentiment was gold heat embossed to finish.

This one’s heading over to the following challenges:

Uniko – #45 Something Old, Something New (2 old stamp sets, new Cherry Blossom inks + new gold paints)

And as a duo, I’m entering them in:
Twofer Challenge – #1 Feathers (penguin feathers are short, overlapping and densely packed – who knew? 😂)
SSS Monday ChallengeBirds of a Feather

That does it for me, but click HERE to check out the fabulous cards my team has created to inspire you.  Hope you will join us this fortnight.  Can’t wait to see those cute creations.  Thank you for stopping by.  Have a wonderful weekend.

  16. Two fabulous cards using that sweet penguin! I especially love the one with the heart – great sparkle from the gold spray! So glad to hear you’re on the mend – that flu going around is a nasty one and I’ve known so many people getting sick with it – the hosts of the New Year’s Eve dinner I was supposed to go to both came down with it and had to cancel New Year’s Eve so I stayed home and watched a movie instead!

  18. Dear Trina, so sorry you had the terrible flu going around…no fun! So happy you are much better. It has not effected your sweet, cute CAS style of stamping:-) I love your sweet, adorable little penquins. You do cute and CAS so beautifully. TFS both your cards my friend. I loved your added shimmer too. Hugs..and take care.

  19. What a lovely pair of cards Trina! That little penguin is so very cute and you used him to perfection! It’s the hat and the coy look that does it for me – plus your wonderful eye for detail!

Hope you’re feeling much better now – I have a feeling one or both of us is coming down with something here – let’s hope it’s not the dreaded flu, which is pole axing so many people! Ha, it it is then little Parsnip will be chief cook, bottle washer and also nurse for a little while 🙂

    Hugs

Cute cards! 🙂 Actually they are SUPER CUTE! I love this little guy and he does look ashamed for forgetting the birthday. The rainbow, watercoloured background is so sweet and I love the sparkle. Great shading with your watercolouring to add dimension to the penguin.

Wonderful technique with your masked, sponged, ombre heart. The penguin is just perfect for your sentiment! Great colouring.

On the plus side the flu doesn’t appear to have zapped your mojo and I just knew you’d rock this cutie challenge. Fabulous, colourful, cute (of course) and stunning as ever. Love both examples and I’m sure Darnell and the team will too. Have a good week x
