CAS Christmas March Challenge – Holly

Hello there.  I’m back with my second post for today.  Loll and Bonnie, the creators of CAS Mix Up and CAS Watercolour card challenges, are launching a new third card challenge today called CAS Christmas.  As the name indicates, it’s a clean and simple card challenge dedicated to Christmas cards.  For years I’ve been wanting to make Christmas cards throughout the year, but have failed miserably.  So now, not only will I achieve this goal, but I will be part of their amazing team right from the start.  On a side note, this month marks the 2nd anniversary at CAS Mix Up and there are prizes up for grabs.  And now back to our first challenge this month at CAS Christmas and it is Holly.

Those who know me know that I am a fan of non-traditional colour Christmas cards.  Rarely will you ever see me make a red and green colour Christmas card.  So needless to say, this theme was definitely a challenge for me.  Not just the colour, but also because I don’t own any  holly specific stamp or die.  The hollies I do have are part of something else, as seen in my card.

A fireplace mantel was the idea behind my card.  The holly garland was die cut from Neenah cardstock and coloured with Copics.  As you can see, I could not bring myself to colour those tiny berries red. 😂

The fireplace was created with white embossing paste and a brick stencil on a Mixed Media stitched rectangle.  The mantel was created from stacking 4 white strips of cardstock and topped with a dry embossed wood plank piece.

The sentiment was die cut from white and from gray cardstock and offset for a shadow effect.  The panel was adhered to a white top folding card base.  Clear crystal glaze on the holly leaves and clear shimmer on the sentiment finished off this card.

I also found some silver foil scraps and made an even simpler version, which was what you see on the CAS Christmas blog. Photographing foil is difficult, but it looks so much better IRL and I love how this one turned out.

My talented team have created some beautiful cards to inspire you to come play along with us and you can check them out HERE.  Challenge runs till March 24th, so there is plenty of time.  Looking forward to seeing your CAS holly cards.  Thank you for visiting. Have a great day!

Die-Cut Floral CASEing

Hi there,

My card today usees a couple of dies that have been collecting dust ever since I purchased them several months ago.  Actually, I think one of them was purchased 10 months ago!

I pulled out my Pierced Circle Frame die and die cut from white cardstock twice to give it dimension. Then I took one of the inside die-cut circles and ink blended Sahara Sand ink over a brick stencil before inlaying it into the frame.

Next I die cut the Botanical flower from white cardstock.  I used a sponge dauber to add sone pink shading to the flower.  The leaves were die cut from light gold colored cardstock.

I adhered the floral elaments around the circle frame and then stamped the greeting in black Archival ink using my MISTI.

I am playing in the following challenges:

CASEploration – June 2016 CASEing Shelly Kurth
CAS-ual Fridays – CFC149 Florals
CAS Mix Up – June 2016 stamping + die-cuts + your choice
