Giving Spirit

Hello everyone.  Today I am sharing a Christmas card.  I couldn’t resist when I saw Merry Monday Christmas  challenge theme was elves  I used my favourite Santa’s Elves stamp set and my favourite colour combo, which also happened to be the same colours for the color combo challenge over at Winnie & Walter, to create my card.  I wanted these elves to show their Christmas spirit as they exchange gifts.

I used masking and spotlighting techniques to make my card.  I cut two A2 size stitched rectangle panels from white cardstock.  Both panels were stamped with Memento black ink exactly the same with the use of the MISTI.  I stamped the left elf, masked him, then stamped the second elf after masking off the ornament he was holding when inking up the stamp.  On one panel, I masked off both elves, then blended some Twisted Citron distress ink for the background.  I coloured the elves in with Copics. For the other panel, I did light shading with just a grey Polychromous pencil to add some depth.  Otherwise, it would look too flat.

To spotlight these elves, I die cut the coloured panel with a stitched square die.  I took the die cut square and lined it up with the image on the grey shaded panel.  To make it stand out even more, I added a white stitched frame.

The greeting was black heat embossed and a few sparkling clear sequins were added to finish.

Window Spinner Card

Hello everyone.  I have a fun card to share today. Plus, I have my first attempt at a short video. So MFT ran the series of Camp Create challenges this past summer and now they are hosting a Card Design Superstar contest.  Of course I am joining in the fun.  For my first entry, I wanted to do a window spinner card.  I’m not even sure if that’s what this type of card is called. I combined a tic tac toe, rainbow and frames challenges to create my card. All stamps and dies are from MFT.

One of the reasons I liked the Hog Heaven stamp set is the image of the piggy’s backside.  I just gave mine a heart tattoo on his left butt cheek that I drew in with a Copic multiliner and colored with Copics.  The balloons are from Blueprints 26.  I die cut two balloons from white cardstock and heat embossed the sentiments from Adorable Elephants with white embossing powder.  I then Ombre ink blended Ripe Raspberry Premium dye ink for a little emboss resist.

The card front window opening was die cut with Cross-stitch Rectangle STAX.  For reinforcement and stability, I cut two 5-1/4″x4″ white pieces of cardstock and die cut an opening in the middle with the same cross-stitch die to create a frame. For more stability and some detail, I die cut two frames from white cardstock with the Pierced Rectangle Frames.  I adhered baker’s twine down the middle of the opening and then attached the frames.  For some reason, I just love the idea of critters flying away on balloons, so I attached the balloons and piggy images back to back along the twine. I added some pink sequins for texture.

To create the sky background that appears through the window opening, I blended some Tumbled Glass distress inks and then die cut the stitched rainbow and clouds from white cardstock using End of the Rainbow.  I colored the rainbow with Copics then adhered my pieces to complete my background.  Really simple.

And here’s a short video showing how this card spins.  Click HERE to watch in HD.
