CAS Christmas May Challenge – Snowman

Hello everyone.  Our CAS Christmas May challenge is here and this month’s theme is Snowman.  Our talented March winner, Barb of Barb’s Studio Creations, is joining us as our guest designer.

I decided to give an in and out card a try.  I don’t remember where I saw this type of card first, but afterwards, Jennifer Macguire shared a modified version of it HERE.  And here’s the inside of the card.

Initially, it was going to be a one layer in and out card, but there was too much warping from the heat tool drying.  So I took a stitched rectangle piece die cut from watercolor paper that was in my stash and did some distress oxide ink smooshing with Faded Jeans, Peacock Feathers, Lucky Clover and Cracked Pistachio.  For a snowy effect, white acrylic paint splatters were added.  Made sure the panel was completely dry, then black heat embossed the sentiment with clear glitter embossing powder.

Next, took the snowman die and die cut the opening.  Positioned the panel on an A2 Soft Sky card base and traced the opening.  Aligned the die to the traced image and die cut the front of the card base.

Stamped the snowman on a scrap of X-press It paper, colored it with Copics and die cut out.  Stacked the die cuts together, but I wanted the image to pop out even more through the opening, so added a black fun foam diecut.  Aligned the openings and adhered to finish.

And I couldn’t let that warped ‘one layer’ smooshed piece go to waste, so it was die cut out with a stitched rectangle die.  Added a stacked white die cut sentiment (retired) covered with clear shimmer.  Stamped, coloured and die cut another snowman.  Adhered to a white top folding card base and VOILA finish!

Well, that does it for me.  For more fabulous inspirations from our guest and my team, head on over to the CAS Christmas blog HERE.  The challenge runs till May 24th.  Can’t wait to see your snowman cards.  Thank you for stopping by and have a great day!

Purple Winter Wishes

Hello again.  I am quickly popping in with a second post today to share a non-traditional colour CAS Christmas card.

The penguin image was stamped with Memento black ink on X-Press It paper, coloured with Copics and die cut out with the coordinating die (my alignment was off, so I had to do some fussy cutting to try to even it out). The sentiment was white heat embossed on a strip of black cardstock.

The background was created by ink smooshing Wilted Violet and Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Inks on watercolor paper, then die cutting with a circle die.

A Zig Zag Stitched panel was die cut from watercolor paper and adhered to a white top folding card base.  All the pieces were assembled and mounted to it.  Clear shimmer and some sequins finished off the card.

And that’s it for today.  Thank you for stopping by.  Have a great day or night wherever you are.

Less is More #348 Watercolour

Hello there.  I don’t know about you, but September seriously flew by!  Anyhow, it’s Saturday and it’s our lucky dip challenge at Less is More (LIM).  The theme for challenge #348 is Watercolours.  Our talented guest designer joining us this week is August winner, Jane from Purplejet Loves Crafts.  This month’s sponsor once again is Happy Little Stampers.

WATERCOLOUR SMOOSHING

Watercolour smooshing was used to create the watercolour background.  Salty Ocean and Picked Raspberry distress inks were added to a craft sheet and spritz with water.  An acetate sheet was then used to pick up the colours and smooshed onto the bottom right corner of a stitched rectangle panel die cut from watercolor paper.  Using an acetate sheet gives a little more control.  The elf was stamped with black Memento ink on X-press It paper, coloured with Copics, die cut out with the matching die and popped up with foam adhesives.  The NBUS sentiment was black heat embossed with clear glitter embossing powder to finish.

ZIG WATERCOLOURING

I must confess watercolouring is not my strong suit. 😉  Thanks to Loll and some of her tips, I managed to watercolour this floral birthday card for my FIL’s wife whose birthday is today, but we’re celebrating tomorrow.  The floral bouquet was heat embossed with platinum embossing powder on mixed media paper and then watercoloured with Zigs.  Partial die cutting with NBUS circle die was then used to die cut the image out so that the upper left flower extended past the circle.  It was matted onto a black circle and trimmed on the right side with a paper trimmer.  The diagonal stripe strip is washi tape.  The NBUS sentiment was silver heat embossed on black. Clear shimmer and clear droplets finished the card..

Butterfly Beautiful Birthday

Hi there.  I am sharing a CAS birthday card today..  It was really quick to make since most of the pieces were from snippets I already had.

A few Sundays back, I had a craftydate with friends (Loll, Christine and Susan) and we did smooshing with tissue paper and Distress Oxide (DOx) inks.  I came home with seven different pieces.  The Wilted Violet / Cracked Pistachio one was used here.  It was glued to a scrap of white cardstock and then die cut with a NBUS hexagon die.

The hexagon die was then used to die cut on a white Stitched Rectangle snippet panel.  For dimension, the hexagons were also die cut from black cardstock and stacked for dimensional inlay diecutting.  The sentiment was black heat embossed.

The outline butterfly was attached to the solid butterfly only in the centre to allow the wings to move freely for a 3-D effect.  The butterflies were also snippets. And that finishes the card.

Thank you for visiting.  Have a great day!

Summer Sailing

Hi everyone.  I have a really easy CAS general card to share today.   It was prompted by the new sketch today at CAS(E) this Sketch.

Here’s my card

I found a leftover watercolor piece smooshed with Salty Ocean distress ink.  It made me think of creating a summer sailing scene with it, so I smooshed Peacock Feathers on the bottom for the water.  It was dried with a heat tool and then die cut with a stitched rectangle.

The sentiment was black heat embossed with Versafine ink and clear embossing powder.  The sailboat and seagulls were die cut from white cardstock 3x to be stacked for dimension.

I wanted the water to glisten in the light, so I used a clear Spica pen to add sparkle.  And that is it.  Thank you for visiting.  Have a great day!
