CAS Christmas July Reminder – Poinsettia

Hello there!  This is the reminder post for July’s CAS Christmas Poinsettia card challenge.  Deadline is July 24th, so you have one more week to join us.  I’m fascinated with color pencils on dark cardstock.  Can’t get any darker than black and since I love non-traditional colour Christmas cards, here’s my card.

Started by die cutting a stitched rectangle from Artagain drawing paper.  Used my MISTI stamping tool to stamp the duo poinsettia image off the edge with white pigment ink.  Stamped the image again on a scrap piece for a third poinsettia (applying the rule of thirds and odd numbers).  I could have used the single image in the set, but why dirty up another stamp.  Coloured them with a white Prismacolor pencil and a couple of grey Polychromos pencils for shading.

Once colouring was complet, re-stamped the images with white pigment ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  Added clear shimmer to them then fussy cut out the poinsettia from the scrap piece.

Die cut ‘Merry Christmas’ from silver foil and black cardstock.  Offset them on the panel for a shadow effect.  Adhered the panel to a white top folding card base and mounted the fussy cut poinsettia with foam tape to finish.  At least that was what I thought… 😂

My husband was not thrilled with the monochromatic look, so I re-created it.  This time I used Bristol paper and white heat embossed the poinsettias first before watercolouring them with Picked Raspberry distress ink.  He’s not a fan of pink, but he liked it more than the black!  Huh!  I was happy with how both turned out but I still prefer the black one.  My mom just happened to FaceTime me at that moment, so I asked her what she thought… and she agreed with me!  Ha!  😂  Anyway, what do you think?

CAS Christmas July Challenge – Poinsettia

Hello there!  It’s Christmas in July (and every month for that matter 😂) here at CAS Christmas.  This month’s theme is Poinsettia!  And here’s my card.

I started by white heat embossing the poinsettia three times on scraps of Bristol paper.  Watercolored them with a watercolor brush and a couple of blue Zig markers. Added clear shimmer for some sparkle and then fussy cut them out.

Next, created an antique frame by die cutting an opening in the center of a white A2 size Bristol piece.  Adhered the top and bottom two poinsettias directly onto the card base itself.  Popped up with mounting tape the middle one and the frame for dimension.  Silver heat embossed the sentiment on a white strip and adhered to finish.

Marina of My Perfect Life was our May winner and is now our wonderful guest this month.  Be sure to head on over to the main blog post HERE to see the beautiful cards she and my teammies have made to inspire you to play along.  As always, thank you for stopping by.  Enjoy your day!
