Winter Wishes

Hi there.  Today I am sharing a fun CAS Christmas card.

To keep it CAS and to create dimensions without adding any layers, I double dry embossed an A2 size piece of white cardstock with a Wave embossing folder (EF) and a Circle Peek-a-Boo die.  Then I trimmed it down to 5-1/4″x4″.

I die cut a reverse circle mask and placed it around the circle.  I then heat embossed snowflakes with VersaMark ink and clear embossing powder. Next I masked a slope within the circle then sponged Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink (retired) and Blueprint Sketch inks to create the sky.  This sky colour combo is definitely outside the box for me, but I like it.

I stamped Waddles skiing on a scrap of white cardstock, coloured with Copics then die cut out with the matching die.  I added snow with a white gel pen.  The sentiment was white heat embossed on a strip of black cardstock.  The panel was mounted onto a white card base and clear Wink of Stella was added to the hat to finish.  I thought the double embossed background was enough, so no embellishments.

In that stamp set, there is a great image to create a coffee themed card, so I made a similar card for the 2016 Winter Coffee Lovers Blog Hop .  Because I used the other wave EF in the duo set on this card and it gives a more subtle embossed look, I added a few sequins on this one.

Updated to Add:  Please note that the circle is not inlaid. The double emboss technique dry embosses both patterns of the EF and the die on one single layer of cardstock with no die cutting involved.  There is only dry embossing.  The only die cutting I did was with Waddles.  I am having trouble finding the video where I saw this technique, but when I do find it, I will update and link it here.

Update with Link:  Good News!  I found the link!  I was searching the wrong terms.  Anywho, the technique is shown towards the end of this video HERE.

  7. This is AMAZING, Trina! I love the double embossing and your sponged sky is so pretty! Waddles is adorable too! Two awesome cards! Thanks so much for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up and Merry Monday!

    • Thank you Bonnie for your sweet comment. Hoping to get another one in for both challenges.

  8. Your masking on this is absolute perfection. All I have to do is look sideways at a piece of white paper and an inky spot magically appears, so I’m always ridiculously impressed by cards like these. Bravo!

    • Thank you Becca for your sweet comment. I agree those unwanted inky spots can be a pain when sponging. I’ve learned to create masks larger than what is needed.

  9. LOVE all the details of your sweet cards Trina. That double embossed background is so pretty and adds lots of dimension. Great design with the inlaid die-cut circle. Love the embossed snowflakes and sponged sky … and your sweet penguins. Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up!

    • Thank you Loll for your kind comment. However, the circle is not inlaid. It’s double dry embossed. Love this technique for CAS cards.

  10. Trina the EF background looks amazing, it really gives depth to the card. Also love those cute critters. BTW I have to try the background with cards for next year.

    • Thanks Christine. Love the double embossing technique.
