CAS Christmas April Challenge – Ornament

Hello there.  This month’s challenge at CAS Christmas is Ornaments.  Unlike last month’s challenge where my supply of hollies was limited, I have plenty of ornament options to choose from.  And here’s my card.

The die is a 2-piece die set consisting of the detailed image and the shadow.

To start, the two pieces were lined up and held together with painters tape.  3 ornaments were then die cut from white cardstock and stacked for dimension.  The hook part was created from a scrap of silver foil paper.

I wanted a sparkly ornament and after reading how shimmery Magicals are, I gave my recently purchased Magicals a go.  Sprinkled Gluten Tag Teal and Bavarian Blue Magicals on watercolor paper, spritz with water then dried with the heat tool.  I must have done something wrong because it wasn’t as shimmery.  Anyway, I ended up spritzing it with a DIY shimmer spray and got the results I was after.  Splattered some white acrylic paint for a snowy look, then die cut with the shadow die.

The ornament was a lot bigger than I thought, so to keep it CAS, it was adhered off the edge on a white A2 stitched rectangle.  Silver heat embossed the sentiment, then mounted the panel to a white top folding cardbase to finish.

My team have made some beautiful cards to inspire you and you can check them out HERE.  The challenge runs until April 24, so there is lots of time to link up.  Thank you for visiting.  Have a great day!

  1. What an elegant ornament, Trina! I love the shimmer you’ve got in the background! It looks so icy and beautiful! Love how you’ve placed it a bit off the card front too! Very classy!

  2. What a lovely CAS Christmas card, Trina! I love that you placed the ornament off the edge.
The deer and snowflake ornament is so pretty. The shimmery Magicals’ (& shimmer spray) blue sky is gorgeous! Hideko xx

  3. Trina that’s a beautiful die, even thought it’s large you created the perfect CAS card. Awesome night sky behind the deer with the splattery snow 🙂

  4. Such a creative idea to pop the die cut slightly off the card. The sprays by far are much more shiny than the powders x Fabulous Christmas card and so very pretty x

  5. Gorgeous sky Magicals background for your stacked die cut ornament, Trina. Trimming your ornament worked beautifully to add more white space. Sweet little sentiment too.
I have noticed on my Magicals that some colors do not have as much glimmer shine in the powders as others. You can even tell by looking at the powders before adding your water, which ones have more glimmer. Still…very pretty and you solved the problem by adding your pretty spray. TFS Trina. Hugs..

  6. What a clever solution to make the large ornament more CAS by trimming it and setting it off the edge! Lovely shades of blue in it and great splatters – perfect for the top layer with the reindeer.

  7. What a wonderful ornament die that is Trina with it’s own die cut scene inside! so pretty in the blue and white and with the lovely falling snowflakes! Julia xx

  8. Beautiful design Trina! Love the “off the edge” technique. The colours of your magicals are so pretty together … not sure why you didn’t get the shimmer. Maybe w/c paper isn’t the best for them?? Anyways, the ornament is gorgeous. Love the fact that it’s two pieces so makes it easier to add layers. xx
