Masculine Christmas

Hello everyone.  I know it’s February, but I’m easing you in to seeing more Christmas cards from me every month this year. 😉  So Winnie and Walter is celebrating their 4th birthday this month and I’m jumping in on the fun… a little late to the party, but I’ve finally recovered from two flus to be able to do so.  Winter Woodland was the first stamp set I bought from them and I decided to pull it out to make this card.

This card by Kelly was the jumping off inspiration for my card.  I also wanted to try watercolouring on color cardstock after seeing this done by Ishani.  To start, an A2 size stitched rectangle was die cut from Kraft cardstock.  The stag was white heat embossed first.  The tree ring was clear heat embossed next.

The tree ring was then watercoloured with Zig markers and a watercolor brush.  Had to be careful not to use too much water to avoid pilling since this was regular cardstock. A brown color pencil was used to shade around the stag to give it some depth.

The pine branch was stamped repeatedly around the image — first with Versamark and white heat embossed, then with Early Espresso dye ink.  The sentiment was white heat embossed on a strip of Early Espresso cardstock.  The stitched panel was adhered to a white top folding card base to finish.

Thank you for visiting.  Have a wonderful day.

  1. Trina, this is absolutely fabulous! A terrific masculine card – and I love how you let the woodgrain show through the deer.

  2. Trina, you’ve created a card that can’t be appreciated in just one glance. You have so much wonderful detail. The deer image and tree rings appear to be one but have been heat embossed and coloured separately. Love the additional detail this gives the deer image! The surrounding pine branches fit the centre images perfecftly, in style and, of course, physically. Love the neutral colours! This is a stunning masculine Christmas card. Thanks so much for joining our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.

  3. Trina I love how you heat embossed the deer image and the tree ring and then coloured it with your blends. Beautiful stunning image. I like the rings on the deer’s body because it looks like it was dry embossed as well. The tree boughs around the edge of the card add a stunning wintery look. Great masculine Christmas card. Thanks so much for joining us at the Watercooler Wednesday “Masculine” Anything Goes Challenge this week.

  4. Such a fabulous and clever design and a fun twist on Kelly’s card. This set is also one of the first W&W sets that I bought as well. Thanks so much for playing along with my prompt at Jingle Belles.

  5. What a fabulous masculine card! I need to figure out how to make more of those. I love the deer set against the wood grain, and the background with the alternating colours is perfect!
