Tropical Cheers

Hi everyone.  As some of you know, I’ve been slowly working on my lengthy NBUS list as part of my crafty resolutions.  So imagine my excitement when I found out that Darnell is running her 8th NBUS Challenge this week to celebrate her 5-year blog anniversary.  In fact, she is running three back-to-back NBUS challenges.  As I was deciding which NBUS item to use, I came across a NBUS pack of Gina K Designs 120 lb. Pure Luxury White cardstock that I had purchased well over 8 years ago!  I would link to it, but it looks like it’s no longer available.  I remember buying it because supposedly, there is no bleed through when using with alcohol markers.  I didn’t own any Copics back then to test that out.  Anyway, now that I found it and have Copic markers, I wanted to do the ultimate test and create a one layer card.  And it just so happens Less is More challenge this week is one layer cards with theme favourite drink/beverage.  And luck wouldI have it, I have a NBUS stamp set that fits this theme!  So here’s my one layer card.

My first tropical drink was a virgin Pina Colada (was underage), and to this day it’s a favourite still.  I stamped, masked and coloured the images as I usually would with Copics and am pleasantly shocked to report that there was no bleed through! I guess I’ll have to hoard my stock and use it sparingly. 😏

I blended Mustard Seed distress ink through a DIY sunburst stencil for the background. I used a black Copic multiliner and a Stitched Rectangle die to trace a border. A few NBUS Crystal Clear sequins were added as a finishing touch.

Because this is a heavy weight cardstock, it makes a nice sturdy one layer card.

Update: it was brought to my attention (thank you CC) that Gina K Designs does carry 120 lb. white cardstock.  However, I’m not sure if this current product is Copic/alcohol marker friendly and will not bleed through

I am linking to the following challenges:

Darnell’s NBUS – #8 Use NBUS Optional Color on Kraft with Pencils
Less is More – #311 One Layer Favourite Drink/Beverage
Happy Little Stampers – January CAS Stencil

  1. Just in case you’re interested, Gina K does still have a 120 lb. white cardstock. Here’s a link…

Hope the link works. If not, it’s called Heavy Base Weight Card Stock – White. And I don’t work for Gina K, so I’m not pushing it for personal gain! 🙂

Just came across your blog and love your cards!!! I’ll be subscribing by e-mail to your blog.

  2. Trina I, I just wanted to let you know that I have really been noticing your amazing cards recently and have just subscribed to get your posts by email. I love your style x

  3. Oooooh, Trina, what gives me hives is the thought that you traced that rectangle die AFTER you did all that beautiful stenciling and coloring of your fun drink image! You are a brave woman! I make my own self nervous doing the sediment last, but tracing a line like that would be SO something I would biff! So high ten!! I’m delighted for you to have found this lovely paper that doesn’t bleed when you make your Copic magic happen, especially since you are a card artist who makes OLCs! But don’t hoard it now ~ life is too short!! Thank you so much for playing in my NBUS Challenge #8! Hugs, Darnell

  4. This is gorgeous! I love the layout, and the colours are fabulous – warm, tropical and with a wonderful holiday feel. How fantastic not to get bleed through, and what a shame the card stock has been discontinued. Lovely card! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Less is More 🙂
